Blue Coat to Buy Crossbeam in Web Security Combo

Blue Coat Systems on Monday said it has agreed to acquire Crossbeam Systems in a deal that combines a pair of Web online security companies. No financial details were disclosed.

Sunnyvale-based Blue Coat was acquired for $1.3 billion last December by Chicago private equity firm Thoma Bravo LLC.

The firm bought Boxborough, Mass.-based Crossbeam for an undisclosed sum just last month, so the deal brings together two related Thoma Bravo investments.

Before being acquired last month, Crossbeam raised more than $100 million from investors, including Charles River Ventures , Commonwealth Capital Ventures, Focus Ventures and Intel Capital.

Crossbeam’s products provide a way for businesses customers to consolidate their security and networking infrastructure.

Blue Coat provides a way for companies to manage and secure inbound and outbound data traffic in any location.

Blue Coat is led by CEO Greg Clark.
